With the rapid growth of the Asian economy the need for supporting infrastructure has never been so apparent. Furthermore with growing international trade the increased usage of regional and specifically Vietnamese ports has been inevitable. Regional ports will continue to play an increasing role in individual countries and the entire regions economic growth.
Key Facts
1. Vietnam is the fast growing economy in Asia except China 2. Over 4.5 billion to be invested in port development before 2012 3. Ports in Vietnam are expected to double in the amount of cargo handled in the next 10 years
Traditionally government support and funding has been divided up between many Vietnamese ports due to all having a legitimate claim for assistance. As a result, the distribution of limited funds across many projects has hindered large and much needed infrastructure works, port expansions and foreign / private investment.
Over the past 4 years the government has taken action and invested in large scale works on several ports as they become increasingly aware of the impact that key projects can and will make to the country’s economic development. Since 2006 there has been more than 10 foreign companies invest in Vietnam port projects.
Ports Planning & Design Asia will look at the planning and design principles required in constructing and developing a fully functioning port from a greenfield, existing site or an expansion on a current operational port.
This forum will provide those companies looking to establish links with Vietnamese Port authorities, shipping firms, port owners and those that already play in the port development industry the chance to meet, showcase and educate.
